Dan Gable
Perhaps the greatest amateur wrestler in history, Dan Gable is synonomous with wrestling. The Waterloo, Iowa, native began wrestling as boy and won three Iowa High School championships and two NCAA championships at Iowa State University. He lost his final college match in 1970, however two years later he won the gold medal in his weight class at the Munich Olympics. What was all the more remarkable about his win was that he did not give up a point in his matches. He later coached the University of Iowa, and won several national championships, before retiring in 1997.
