Ekaterina Sknarina
Ekaterina Sknarina was born in the town of Pyatigorsk in the Southern Federal District of Russia. She trained as a rhythmic gymnast and became a member of the Russian national team, competing successfully in numerous international championships.
After retiring from competition she moved to Washington,DC to teach rhythmic gymnastics at the "Rhythmic World" Club. Later she joined New York-based troupe Anti-Gravity.
She has also developed a career as a fitness model and fashion stylist, appearing in magazines such as FHM, One World, GQ and Paper Magazine. You can view her styling work at www.katyasknarina.com.
In addition to her repertoire she has starred in the off Broadway show Maximum Risk, in which the performers sought to break a world record in each performance. Sknarina has become an established face in New York's fashionable new performance art scene. This led, in 2007, to her becoming a spokesperson for the campaign to save New York's historic Coney Island amusement area from redevelopment.
She has appeared on television on various occasions as part of the Coney Island campaign.
Her film career began in 2007 with a small role 'Rita' in the Julie Taymor's movie 'Across The Universe'.
Ekaterina's recent projects include obtaining an MA in Art from prestigious Central St. Martins College (London) and appearance in ongoing Matthew Barney's new project 'Guardian of the Veil'.
