Valentyn Korotkevych
Valentyn Edward Korotkevych. Born Severodonetsk, small city of eastern Ukraine.
Being an only child in the unformed family, he was raised by a single mother - lawyer with a keen ear for music.
In the midst of war zone between Russian & Ukraine (2013), he finished high-school at 17 and was forced to claim refuge abroad, which led him to Canada - Toronto (2014), where he studied Computer Engineering for a year before quitting and slowly revealing his passion for arts.
First creative-directorial work (titled "Tea?", Toronto) include a collaboration with a close friend, Vanessa Jackson, that brought Valentyn initial praise of recognition withing the local community ('Award of Merit' at Canada Shorts) Following up, he wrote, directed & acted in "Paradise. Death. Mars" a piece based on Spoken Word of the same name. Attempt on defying the nature of one's being. One's contribution towards general consensus of present way of living. Awarded with 'Best Experimental Category' at Queens Film Festival, NY, along with playing at Oaxaca Film Festival under 'Explanatory' category. Next-up is a story based on a homeless African-American boy, who glimpses to see his potential future as a Jazz musician, only to be crushed to discover that the vision was only a dream of his (title - "Silent"). Film is currently being re-visioned and finalized with a close co-creator/collaborator Cameron Mackenzie (SFU Graduate & incredible talented mind of Vancouver scene) In 2019 Valentyn relocated to the west coast of Canada - Vancouver to con't pursuing his acting career, along with finishing his latest writing collaboration on the thriller-mystery screenplay - "Awake", which has been accepted as a Quarter Finalist at Hollyshorts Film Festival (Lost Angles) along with becoming Semi-Finalist at Screenplay Festival under 'Horror-Thriller' genre. Lastly, Valentyn's most recent writing-directorial work follows the tragic over-night story of young woman, who, being an undeniable 'hopeful romantic' is destined to pay a heavy price for such a big heart of hers. Greedy in its essence, the title of the film is "Back of the night". Recently final cut has been locked down & film is being considered for the festivals Most recent creative en-devour took its place under the title 'In search of' - a hybrid of film & digital. It is Valentyn's first attempt into bringing & honing 'founder' material itself - 8mm scan. Currently in post-production.
