Verity Higgins
Verity Higgins, a VCA graduate, has worked as a director, actor, project co-ordinator, and teacher in performing arts. She has directed for festivals, theatre companies, tertiary institutions, & as a freelance artist and received awards for screenwriting, directing, acting and project management. In 2005 Verity worked in the UK as Associate Director and actor for a small touring company - North Country Theatre. On returning to Australia she took up a position of Regional Arts Development Officer with Regional Arts Victoria, based in Ballarat. Verity directed and independently produced a documentary about the Sweet Mona's choir The Big Sing, which was acquired and broadcast on the ABC in 2010. Since returning to freelance work at the end of 2013 Verity has worked as an actor, director and producer on a range of mainstream and independent film, TV & theatre projects including developing a new theatre work, The Freda Experience, for presentation at both the Castlemaine State Festival & Nati Frinj 2015. One of her acting highlights has been the short film Nathan loves Ricky Martin, which attracted numerous awards including an AACTA/AFI nomination. Mainstream acting work includes, guest roles on Dr Blake, Fancy Boys, The Wrong Girl and Hamish & Andy's True Stories. Her most recent theatre work was in Hotel Now's, Her Father's Daughter, and La Mama's , Blazing Son. Verity has three adult children and lives in Regional Victoria.
