Actor/artist "Doc" Joe Watson, best-known for his role in Forbidden Cuba and for playing the dad in "First Moon Party", was born in Auburndale, Florida on December 11, 1969, to Betty Watson, Realtor and David Watson, Broker/developer. He has a twin sister and two younger sisters, Julie, Rebecca, and Melinda, and has English, as well as some, Irish, American Indian, Russian Jewish and Scottish, ancestry. His career began when he traveled to Miami at the age of 16. To do an episode of Miami Vice. It was a featured part. He was to sit on a Limo at as Sonny Crocket (Don Johnson went passed and then to give Apolonia's character a dozen roses just before she was fatally wounded by a shooter in the crowd. Soon after Joe returned to Miami again to be featured in a film called "Let it Ride" starring Richard Dreyfus. On the set he had several conversations with Dreyfus who encouraged the young upstart to follow his dream to Hollywood, CA. Joe's next step was to join a college accredited acting school. He auditioned for a representative in Tampa Florida and then decided to visit it's New York campus. While walking into the School in NYC, Joe bumped into an actor he had met in a play he did when he was twelve. The older actor delighted by the coincidence took the time to show Joe the campus and to tout the advantages of the New York campus. At the time the primary focus was Theater and Richard Dreyfus had planted a seed. Joe chose to pack his car and drive to Los Angeles at 17 years old to begin his career as an actor. Joining the alumni of AADA in Pasadena, CA. Bending the rules Joe decided it was time he make some moves and in the local trade paper for actors, he found his first audition. It read, The Evil, casting the part of Billy. Vegetarian Productions and send submissions to...address. Joe couldn't be bothered with submissions. So he drove to the address in. Hollywood, saw the name on the mail box was in fact Sagittarius Productions and knocked on the obvious residential door. There he met a confused Royce Mathew Writer/Director/ Producer/ linear editor of the completely shot and now strewn about the apartment cutting room floor, movie, "Dream a little Evil." Mathew's to his credit gave Joe a first hand look at the process and read him for the role regardless of the fact that the film was in the can. He then offered to meet with Joe weekly to teach him how to effectively cold read. Later they would team up to develop scripts. One of those scripts has become a controversial mega franchise for Walt Disney Pictures grossing over 3 billion world wide. Joe began booking parts immediately. Joe spied a casting notice for an open call looking for actors to play James Dean. Having learned makeup at the academy, he decided he would give it a shot. Three days before the audition in anticipation Joe decided to put on the Character and walk around the studio lot where the audition/call would be held. The lot was nearly vacant and he strolled the streets trying to imagine the events actual location. He was interrupted by a man in an old fashioned car and an interesting hat. The man asked if everything was good. Joe said it was. He said, nice belt. Joe said, "thank you, nice hat." On the day of the audition, Joe arrived to see a line of at least 200 young James Dean hopefuls. He decided that what he knew from his quick study of Dean is that he too wouldn't want to be on that line. The line was a media circus. So, Joe sat at the foot of a tree with his head down and waited until the last man went inside. The media would come to Joe and he waved them off. When he entered the building he heard voices ring out. James Dean is coming in. He was whisked through a couple of interviews for Hard copy, a current affair, CNN and few locals and brought right to the director who was waiting to see him. The man from the car introduced himself and Joe broke character to respond In kind. Everything changed in Hollywood for Joe after that day. He attended to premieres and the parties bathed in flashbulbs. He was no longer just an outsider. He was no going up for parts against A listers. However, the James Dean project that Joe was involved in would never be made due to tragedy. Joe decided he wanted to continue his quest in NYC. He would continue working on a project now titled and credited Supernatural Pirate Movie with Royce who joined him in Brooklyn, New York. For three year Joe explored his writing and purchased cameras and equipment to make short films, stop frame animations and work as a waiter for various high end catering outfits and party planners. He decided not to venture into the acting scene in the city. At age 28, having concluded his business with Royce Mathew, he said good by to his friend as Royce returned to L.A..
