Jack Ewing is European economics correspondent for the New York Times based in Frankfurt, a job he has held since 2010. Ewing has worked as a journalist in Germany since 1994, filing stories from almost every country in the European Union as well as Africa and Asia. Ewing's beat at the Times includes not only the automobile industry but also monetary policy, banking and macroeconomics. He is the author of two books: "Faster, Higher, Farther: the Volkswagen Scandal," published in 2017, and "Germany's Economic Renaissance: Lessons for America," published in 2014. He has been a German Marshall Fund Journalism Fellow and in 2011 received The New York Times Publisher's Award for his coverage of the European debt crisis. He has also worked for Bloomberg News in Frankfurt and the Hartford Courant in Hartford, Connecticut. He began his career as a sportswriter for the Santa Fe Reporter in New Mexico. Mr. Ewing, who grew up in Shelburne, Vt., holds a master's degree in history from Trinity College in Hartford and a bachelor's degree from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. He is married with a grown daughter.
