Owen McDonnell was born in Galway the youngest of four children. Having long nurtured a desire to act he studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, rather than at any Irish academy, simply, he says, because it was the cheapest. Upon graduation he made London his home but has returned to Ireland on several occasions to appear on stage there, as well as for various TV and film projects.
Owen Meyer is an actor, a model, an entrepreneur, and a philanthropist. He was born and raised in South Africa to a working class family with his father, Patrick Errol Meyer and mother ,Nicolette Teressa Maritz. While he was a student, still in high school, he was discovered by a director who was shooting a commercial with the South African national football team. From there Owen went on to land a starring role on Endemol Productions' Isidingo, the most watched daytime drama in Africa, earning him a global reputation and netting him several more films, TV rolls and commercials internationally.Owen has been recognized within the industry as an up and coming talent, earning the Teen Choice Awards Best Actor from Crepitation's, Best Newcomer and Best Actor nominations from People Magazines' Peoples Choice Awards, and Sexiest Man of the year from Cosmopolitan. After traipsing the globe on mega yachts as a MCA qualified 500t captain, Owen spent some time in Miami, where he landed a supporting role on the final season of Burn Notice. He has since relocated to Los Angeles, where he is working on a major feature, which was recently covered in Wrap Magazine and as the cover story for Headgame.A leader in his field, Owen is never satisfied, always shooting for greater heights within the industry and always seeking out the best opportunities available. Owen developed a love for the written and spoken word at the age of twelve. Enchanted by the ability of skillfully crafted words to paint vivid, inescapable, and unmistakable pictures in ones mind, Owen thought that a career in writing would one day be a rewarding and worthwhile pursuit. As in the case of many, upon becoming an adult, his dreams got crowded out by the subsequent challenges and responsibilities of life. At his wits end, in seeking to cope with the pain of a tragic situation, Owen turned to acting as therapy; as an absolute last resort. He thought perhaps this could be a favorable means to deal with the range of negative emotions that were now a constant companion. He had no reason to believe that he would be fond of acting; he just needed the pain gone. It worked. But, not only did it work, he found himself hooked. His talent, passion, and love for the craft are unquestionable. He has shared the screen with the likes of Denzel Washington, Will Smith, Andy Garcia, David Caruso, Sharon Gless, Gary Dourdan, Antoni Corone, Marc Macaulay, Mario Van Peebles, Brian Dennehy, Glenn Plummer, and numerous others. His love for writing lead to the collaboration with friend and writer Eddie Lingo Jr. in the completion of four provocative and well received screenplays: "Vessel", "Death by 12", "Check Mate" and "Victim", with more to follow. One of his most recent acknowledgements came in August of 2018 where he won the prestigious and coveted "Best Actor" award in the LA Shorts International Film Festival. In the provocative, captivating, and mesmerizing film "Marcus", Owen played two rather different characters, delivering a performance that was aptly described by OC Movie Reviews as "exceptional"; The Independent Critic recalled his performance as "thoughtful, nuanced, and stellar". .
Born in 1884, virile and dashing silent screen idol Owen Moore, equipped with incredibly handsome reddish and ruddy features, came to America with his family from Ireland at the age of 11. After some stage work, he entered films at the Biograph Studio in 1908 and appeared in many of D.W. Griffith's early productions. Owen was Mary Pickford's stylish leading man in her early career-starters and they secretly married in 1911. Some of their classic pictures together include Cinderella (1914), in which he played her Prince Charming, and Mistress Nell (1915). Mary left Owen for Douglas Fairbanks, however, and the couple eventually divorced in 1920. A couple of years later Owen met and wed silent film actress Kathleen Perry, a marriage that lasted until his sudden death of a heart attack at age 54. This couple also made several pictures together. A talented singer in his own right, Owen's timing was off for he was much too old to see what kind of impression he could have made in musicals come the advent of sound. A popular romantic leading man during his heyday, his career took a nosedive once talkies arrived. His last film would be Janet Gaynor's A Star Is Born (1937), in which he played a movie director. Owen's brothers Tom Moore and Matt Moore were also popular leading men at around the same time, but Owen was probably the best known due to his association with Pickford. The three of them appeared together in only one feature film, Side Street (1929). His mother Mary Moore was a character actress for a time, featured in Clara Kimball Young's film Lola (1914). She eventually quit the business, returned to the British Isles and became Lady Wyndham, and died there in 1931. Two other siblings were also briefly actors, Mary Moore and Joe Moore (aka Joseph Moore), but they died young and remain much lesser known. Owen died fairly young himself at age 54 of a heart attack in 1939.
