While studying communications at Toronto's Seneca College, Russell's acting instructor suggested he seriously take up an acting career. From there he auditioned and was selected to be part of a summer program at the University of Toronto, in conjunction with Theatre Ontario. Following the end of that program, Russell went to Los Angeles for 1 year and did some private studying and theatre performance. Once back in Toronto, Russell spent another three years at a private acting studio where he was mentored in classical studies varying from Italian Comedia, Comedy Francais to British Farce and Drama. After a short period of performing, he again returned to studying at the world renowned "Second City" and completed their six level program in improvisation. In 2004, Russell was one of three male actors selected from across Canada to participate in the prestigious private program, "Women in the Directors Chair", at the Banff Arts Centre. Russell's career has allowed him to work with various directing/acting luminaries such as; James Cameron, Paul W.S. Anderson, Peter Deluise, Sturla Gunnarson, Mario Azzopardi, James Franco, Jason Statham, Richard Dean Anderson, Henry Winkler, Lance Henriksen, Jessica Alba and many more. Russell now makes his home in Toronto.
RUSSELL FRIEDENBERG has written and directed three feature films including AMONG RAVENS, an audience-pleaser starring Amy Smart, Will McCormack and Joshua Leonard; IBID, which debuted at (SXSW) South By Southwest and Munich International where it was nominated for the prestigious Cinevision Award; and WIND WALKERS a genre bender starring Zane Holtz and Glen Powell purchased by Fox. Friedenberg's writing and producing credits include award-winning documentary TRUDELL, which premiered at Sundance and played more than 100 festivals worldwide and was recently inducted into the National Archive. For ESPN he wrote and produced OUT OF THE BLUE: a Film about Life and Football. And for Showtime, FIRST CIRCLE, a feature documentary about the foster care system in America. He wrote and produced SAWTOOTH, starring Adam Beach and Udo Kier and was an Executive Producer on MAGIC VALLEY with Scott Glenn, Kyle Gallner and Matthew Gray Gubler and ASS BACKWARDS which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2017 with stars Alicia Silverstone, Jon Cryer and Vincent D'Onofrio. His TV show, SHASTA, was selected by the Sundance 2017 Episodic Lab and was purchased by AMAZON. Recently, Russell has co-written a television pilot, ENCOUNTERS for Amazon Studios, a sci-fi thriller set on a Nevada reservation.

As a multi-disciplined theater artist passionate about social justice he has worked as a facilitator, moderator and teaching artist for two decades creating programming, workshops and curriculum for Developing Artists Theater Company, The National Black Theater, The Liberty Partnerships Program at Bank Street Teachers College, Bronx Academy of Letters, The Cleveland Public Theater, Labyrinth Theater Company, The Cathedral School, Ensemble Studio Theater, HB Studio and The New York Society for Ethical Culture. He is the creator of BLIND SPOT a multi-platform campaign that facilitates cross-cultural dialogue and critical thinking so more of us can recognize and resist internalized and systemic oppression.
During the early 70's he was an active thespian in high school performing in one acts, musicals and other plays. During a proud stint in the U.S. Air Force, as a law enforcement officer, Russ performed in one musical. After an "intermission" a long time friend and experienced actor "rekindled" his interest in acting. Since retiring in 2005 he's done background and supporting roles for TV, movies, commercials, music and training videos in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Russell Geoffrey Banks was born and raised in England. From a young age, Russell was fascinated with movies he recalls how his father would leave VHS tapes recording on the movie channels. Then every time he saw him would give him a box of potluck tapes to watch. Russell was expelled from school at the age of fifteen he worked numerous different jobs from being a market trader to working in call center's to a barman in nightclubs to construction worker to name just a few. He would attend acting classes whenever he could afford to and would write screenplays in his spare time. He went on a holiday to Thailand where he met people who worked in film and decided by doing stand in jobs on u.s productions was his best option to learn about film and acting. For the next few Years, he did small acting jobs and extra to get by while standing in and learning from actors such as Bradley Cooper, Neil McDonagh, James Vander Beek, Chow Yun-fat. When he returned to the UK he studied Method Acting under Sam Rumbelow. Russell's First Lead role came as the Character Clayton in the film Goodnight Gloria a film he co-wrote with the director Jack Everitt. The film was shot around London during the winter months he recalls for half the shoot staying on his close friend Deanne Charles floor and the other half staying in a Caravan on a traveler site in Luton. The same Caravan was used in filming by Byron Gibson's Character. Over the next years, Russell's Characters have been from the darker side of life usually emotionally torn whether it be a scam artist in deep water to a mythological villain or a serial killer.

Russell Griffin, ACE is a sitcom editor and director, known for Mad About You (1992), Family Reunion (2019), The Upshaws (2021), and Raven's Home (2017). After receiving his undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University, Russell went on to earn his Masters of Fine Arts degree in Motion Picture Production from the Graduate Motion Picture Program at the University of Miami. He is a member of the editing honorary society American Cinema Editors (ACE), as well as the Television Academy, where he is currently (2022) serving on the Picture Editors Peer Group Executive Committee.
