Ry Barrett
Originally from Guelph Ontario, Toronto based actor Ry Barrett, changed focus from a musically inclined path to acting, in the early 2000's. After devoting time with rock and punk bands through his teenage years and into his 20's, Ry began his film acting career as the lead character in the 2004 Lions Gate horror-comedy release, 'Desperate Souls'. The film was a relative success considering it's micro indie budget and lack of low budget genre competition at the time, it received worldwide distribution and kicked off several cast/crew film careers that would span multiple future collaborations. Ry continued with a steady incline of intriguing roles, following up in another Lions Gate release 'Psycho Ward', and genre festival favorites, 'Dead Genesis' and 'If A Tree Falls', which Barrett also wrote and produced, the experience cemented his love of the art and process. Barrett then went on to play the central character in the psychological thriller 'Neverlost' (Anchor Bay/Black Fawn Films), a role he received critical commendation for, as well as a 2011 Toronto International Film and Video Award for Best Actor in a Feature. For his role in 'Neverlost", Ry lost 50lbs to better suit the character, and has subsequently become known for his dedication and physical commitment and transformation to each role he immerses himself in. He has played a variety of characters demonstrating a dynamic range as an actor; from intense personal dramas, action and horror villains and heroes, comedies and even the odd children's film. Ry has never shied away from playing a leading man, as well as character centric supporting roles. A born lover of cinema, and published script, story and songwriter, Barrett's interests quickly branched into multiple facets on various projects, including producing, as well as composing fight choreography for the award winning 'The Demolisher'. Ry has since written, directed and produced music videos, features and short films, and continues contributing to his constant resume.
